ZAMSURECO-II’s Distribution/Turnover Ceremony for Linemen’s Tools and Equipment
A lineman's job is essential to ensure electricity is available to households, businesses, and communities 24/7. Also, ensuring powerline workers' protection and safety is paramount to prevent the magnitude of the hazards that powerline workers face. For several years, ZAMSURECO-II's powerline workers have not received their basic tools and equipment. Thus, ZAMSURECO-II Management led by PS/AGM Jose Raul A. Saniel vowed to allocate and provide safety tools and equipment to its linemen, who are rendering service to ZAMSURECO-II's valued Member-Consumer-Owners. A turnover ceremony of Linemen's Tools and Equipment purchased from the Rural Electrification Trading Corporation (RETC) was held on September 10, 2020, at 9:00 in the morning at ZAMSURECO-II Multipurpose Building, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay. During the Ceremony, PS/AGM Saniel distributed quality tools and equipment, namely: 10 bolt cutters, four (4) chainsaws, 11 hot stick telescopic type, 11 hot stick shotgun type, 11 ladder fiberglass, 50 pliers side cutting, 50 screwdrivers, 50 screwdriver flat, 50 adjustable wrench, 45 climber set, ten (10) hole diggers, two halo ammeter, among others. Also, two (2) units of Fluke thermal scanners were provided to detect and correct hotspots effectively; thus, it will help reduce system loss and improve powerline reliability. More so, two (2) units of linemen’s utility vehicles were also procured, augmenting ZAMSURECO-II's current vehicle fleet, which has been long deficient. These brand new utility vehicles will significantly improve ZAMSURECO-II's technical operations’ ability to respond and act on complaints. The management's initiative is a strong manifestation and commitment of the safety and protection of the employees as a top priority at the same time, indicating ZAMSURECO-II's seriousness of purpose of enhancing the delivery of electricity services to its Member Consumer-Owners (MCOs) and stakeholders.

DOE Undersecretary Ranque’s Regulatory Visit to ZAMSURECO-I
September 01 - ZAMSURECO-I welcomed DOE Undersecretary Benito L. Ranque in his regulatory visit to the Cooperative today. GM/CEO Jose Raul A. Saniel together with the Board of Directors headed by BoD President Glenn Santiago G. Malalis, V. President Marivic A. Chaves, Director Jeffrey A. Rabon, Director Maurecio V. Garban, Jr., Director Danilo R. Lumayas, and all members of the management team gave their greetings in a special conference that discussed the Department of Energy's (DOEs) policy and programs thrusts for electric cooperatives amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference was held at the ZAMSURECO-I Central office Board Room at 9:00 in the morning. During the special conference, part of the agenda discussed is the RA10531, where Electric Cooperatives are encouraged to engage in power generation within its franchise area to reduce power cost. The program encourages electric cooperatives to build their own embedded power plant, which is expected to lessen the cost of electricity within its franchise area and heed to President Duterte's call in reducing the dependency on fossil fuel. Due to the current health crisis, the visit also aims to enable DOE to be apprised of the actual situation experienced by electric cooperatives; thus, helping DOE to establish appropriate policies and programs for ECs to better cope-up with the impact of the pandemic. Based on consultations with Mindanao ECs, Usec. Ranque observed that electric cooperatives are experiencing a reduction in power demand due to quarantine restrictions, low collection efficiency, and an increase in electricity costs. DOE Undersecretary Ranque encouraged ZAMSURECO-I to sustain its commendable performance and continue to push for innovations to provide better and affordable electricity services to member consumer-owners (MCOs). He further said that DOE, under the stewardship of Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi, and NEA, led by Administrator Edgardo R. Masongsong, are willing to provide technical assistance to electric cooperatives in the area of embedded renewable energy sources. Indeed, GM Saniel thanked DOE Undersecretary Ranque for the opportunity to voice out concerns regarding the operations of ZAMSURECO-I and ZAMSURECO-II.
