Saniel vowed to allocate and provide safety tools and equipment to its linemen, who are rendering service to ZAMSURECO-II's valued Member-Consumer-Owners. A turnover ceremony of Linemen's Tools and Equipment purchased from the Rural Electrification Trading Corporation (RETC) was held on September 10, 2020, at 9:00 in the morning at ZAMSURECO-II Multipurpose Building, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay. September 01 - ZAMSURECO-I welcomed DOE Undersecretary Benito L. Ranque in his regulatory visit to the Cooperative today. GM/CEO Jose Raul A. Saniel together with the Board of Directors headed by BoD President Glenn Santiago G. Malalis, V. President Marivic A. Chaves, Director Jeffrey A. Rabon, Director Maurecio V. Garban, Jr., Director Danilo R. Lumayas, and all members of the management team gave their greetings in a special conference that discussed the Department of Energy's (DOEs) policy and programs thrusts for electric cooperatives amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference was held at the ZAMSURECO-I Central office Board Room at 9:00 in the morning. During the special conference, part of the agenda discussed is the RA10531, where Electric Cooperatives are encouraged to engage in power generation within its franchise area to reduce power cost. The program encourages electric cooperatives to build their own embedded power plant, which is expected to lessen the cost of electricity within its franchise area and heed to President Duterte's call in reducing the dependency on fossil fuel. Due to the current health crisis, the visit also aims to enable DOE to be apprised of the actual situation experienced by electric cooperatives; thus, helping DOE to establish appropriate policies and programs for ECs to better cope-up with the impact of the pandemic. Based on consultations with Mindanao ECs, Usec. Ranque observed that electric cooperatives are experiencing a reduction in power demand due to quarantine restrictions, low collection efficiency, and an increase in electricity costs. DOE Undersecretary Ranque encouraged ZAMSURECO-I to sustain its commendable performance and continue to push for innovations to provide better and affordable electricity services to member consumer-owners (MCOs). He further said that DOE, under the stewardship of Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi, and NEA, led by Administrator Edgardo R. Masongsong, are willing to provide technical assistance to electric cooperatives in the area of embedded renewable energy sources. Indeed, GM Saniel thanked DOE Undersecretary Ranque for the opportunity to voice out concerns regarding the operations of ZAMSURECO-I and ZAMSURECO-II.
